Preamble

Mongodb compass graphic client: For work with MongoDB, you can use the official graphic client Compass. If you didn’t install MongoDB, Mongo Compass, you can download it by going to www.mongodb.com/compass.

Let’s specify the options for downloading – the Compass version and the target operating system:

Once the installer is booted, let’s run it. We will be shown the following window which informs us that the installation is in progress:

Installation is very fast and after its completion, the corresponding icon will be displayed on the desktop and in the Start menu (if our operating system is Windows). In addition, Compass itself will automatically start:

When launching the program, we need to enter some data to connect to the server.

• Hostname: server host
• Port: the port on which the server is running
• SRV Record: a specification that defines a server location (e.g. address and port).
• Authentication: the type of authentication used. It has the following options:

1. None
2. Username / Password
3. X.509
4. Kerberos
5. LDAP

• Replica Set Name: the name of the MongoDB replica to which the connection is made
• Read Preference: defines how Compass manages the reading operations. It can accept the following options: Primary, Primary Preferred, Secondary, Secondary Preferred, and Nearest.
• SSL: indicates whether a secure connection will be used.
• SSH tunnel: should you connect to the MongoDB cluster through an SSH tunnel?
• Favorite Name: sets connection name

For example, let’s connect to a local server. To do this, first, run the MongoDB server itself. In Compass let’s leave all the default connection settings (they are aimed at the local server, which runs at localhost:27017) and click on the Connect button to connect.

After that, the list of databases that exist on the server will be displayed:

We can select a specific database and get information on it, in particular, see a set of collections in dd, how much data they occupy.

By clicking on a particular collection, you can see graphically all the data that is in the collection:

Using the graphical interface of the Compass program, we can manage this data, add, modify and delete it.
