MongoDB delete Database
Preamble
MongoDB has a removal method to remove documents:
db.users.remove({name : "Tom"})
The remove() method returns the WriteResult object. If one document is deleted successfully, the result is the following:
WriteResult({"nRemoved" : 1})
As a result, all found documents with name=Tom will be deleted. And, as in the case of the find, we can set the selection conditions for deletion in various ways (as regular expressions, as conditional constructions, etc.):
db.users.remove({name : /T\w+/i})
> db.users.remove({age: {$lt : 30}})
The removal method can also accept the second optional Boolean parameter, which specifies whether one element or all elements corresponding to the condition should be removed. If this parameter is true, only one element is removed. By default, it is false:
db.users.remove({name : "Tom"}, true)
To delete all documents from the collection at once, you should leave the query option blank:
db.users.remove({})
Deletion of collections and databases
We may delete not only documents but also collections and databases. The drop function is used to delete collections:
db.users.drop()
And if the removal of the collection is successful, the console will display:
true
To delete the entire database, use the dropDatabase() function:
db.dropDatabase()
